Openai researcher Jason Wei joins the new Meta Superintelligence Laboratory, according to various family sources with the subject.
Wei worked on Openai O3 and Deep research models, according to his personal website. He joined Openai in 2023 after an episode in Google, where he worked in Thought Chain Research, which involves forming a AI model to process complex consultations step by step. In Openai, Wei became a self -written “Diehard” for reinforcement learning, a method of training or perfecting a AI model with positive or negative comments. It has become a promising field of AI research: one that several meta researchers have hired for their specialized superintelligence team.
A source tells Wired that another Openai researcher, Hyung Won Chung, will also join the finish line. The internal profiles of Wei and Chung Openai Slack are currently deactivated. Openai, Meta, Wei and Chung did not immediately respond to Wired Comments Requests.

Chung worked on some of the same projects in Openai as Wei, including -deep research and Openai’s O1 model, according to Chung’s personal website. His research is mainly focused on reasoning and agents, depending on the website. Chung was also overlapping Wei on Google and joined Openai while Wei, according to his Linkedin profiles.
Various sources say in Wired that Wei and Chung have a close working relationship. Meta has previously caused groups of researchers who have experience working together for their new Superintelligence laboratory, including a trio from the Openai Swiss office that joined the Google Chatgpt Maker.
Meta has gone to a poaching for the past month, offering up to $ 300 million for four years to get the highest talent of AI. Wired reported at the end of last month that Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent an internal note to the staff who established a new plan for the company’s AI efforts. It included a list of new employees for the Superintelligence team, most of whom had been recruited in Openai.
The contracting frenzy shows no signs of slowdown and Openai has been fighting against. Last week, Wiedi reported that Openai had recruited four high -ranking engineers of Tesla, lamb and Meta.
On Tuesday, Wei shared a publication on social media reflecting on what he called “an important lesson” that reinforcement learning taught him “about how to live my own life.”
